LMY0245 - Harper Youth Choir
Course Description
Enjoy singing? Love being on stage? Want to spend time with kids with your own interest? The Harper Youth Choir is an exciting musical program designed for young singers. Led by acclaimed conductor/songwriter James McDunn, students will enjoy singing pop and contemporary songs with a fresh, new approach. Drawing inspiration from successful choral programs, this ensemble will offer a comprehensive musical experience that goes beyond current musical selections with traditional singing instruction.
Participants will engage in a dynamic choral training program that emphasizes not just musical skills, but holistic learning. Students will explore music fundamentals, including pitch, tempo, rhythm, and phrasing, while simultaneously developing broader educational connections to math, history, language, and cultural understanding.
The program will feature a combination of group instruction and individual vocal development, allowing young singers to learn ensemble techniques, vocal pedagogy, and personal musical expression.
Rehearsals will include vocal warm-ups, music theory exploration, repertoire learning, and creative musical activities. Students will have opportunities to develop their vocal techniques, learn about healthy singing practices, and potentially prepare for performances that showcase their growing musical abilities. The choir aims to not only teach musical skills but also help young singers form their musical identities and create lasting friendships through a shared love of choral music.
