Course Description

The skills you learn in this class transfer between rough and fine woodworking projects. You will develop basic knowledge of wood materials, products for construction, framing, and safety as we cover techniques for measuring, layout, and the use of hand tools. After demonstrations, you will also use portable power tools.

  2. Wood products and lumber as building materials
  3. Construction equipment safety
  4. Material cutting tools
  5. Fastening
  6. Basic Framing techniques
  7. Exterior & Interior coverings

Learner Outcomes

1. Select and operate carpentry hand tools

2. Choose and operate the correct portable tools for the job at hand.

3. Name and identify appropriate lumber and engineered wood.

4. Develop basic skills in carpentry assembly with hammer, drill, square and saw.

PROPER ATTIRE:
LONG PANTS AND SHOES MUST BE WORN IN ORDER FOR YOU TO USE THE SHOP/LAB. IF YOU SHOW UP IN SHORTS OR SANDLES YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE THE SHOP/LAB. NO EXCEPTIONS. SAFETY GLASSES ARE A MUST!
