Course Description

It’s the presidential election season which brings us to the story of the most famous prisoner in McHenry County, Eugene Debs. Debs, who ran for president 5-times (including once from federal prison), transitioned from a railroad union president to the leader of the national socialist party while serving 180 days in the county jail in downtown Woodstock, Illinois. None of this would have been possible were it not for the bonding of Debs and the ultra-conversative sheriff of McHenry County. This unbelievable story of two unique men, at totally opposite ends of the political spectrum, will bring to light the extreme courage they had in not being afraid to listen to each other.
